Wow! My busyness hasn’t really stopped since I got home, but that’s ok, because its all been goood stuff! (well, expect for one thing - someone backed into my car at work and left me a pretty nice dent/scratch, but other than that….).

First, I finished the book, Water for Elephants, by Sara Gruen. It was very cool: interesting & unique. There are a few parts that were a little risque, but other than that - thumbs up! I have just started the most wonderful book - Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See. Its about a life-long friendship that starts between two Chinese girls during their foot-binding years. I’m loving it so far.

My dear ‘ol friend, Carrie, had me do some pics of her precious Olivia while I was in Springfield. She turns one on Sunday and she is sooo cute. More photos here.

Yesterday, I got to meet Emma Grace, Katie & Micheal’s baby. She is very sweet! So little at just 3 days old! I also booked a wedding in Colorado & its coordinating reception that will be right outside of LA in July! Yay! How fun! Weddings, babies, weddings, babies!

Now…if I could just get to the grocery store….

Shelter Me

Last week I finished Shelter Me by Juliette Fay. It was an easy read - clean, sweet, but pretty predictable. The story is about a mother of two, Janie, who has just lost her husband (Nik told me I need to stop reading books about people dying - but seriously, all books are about people dying!!).  Janie deals with the balance of grieving her husband’s death and moving on to experience the joy that life still has to offer. I was bored at times, almost brought to tears at other times, and then found myself smiling at the happiness that Jane finally allows herself to experience. Overall, it just made me appreciate those in my life even more and acted as a soft reminder that you have to roll with the punches and find joy in the small things.

This weekend I read, The Time Travelers Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. What?! Two books in 3 months?! Meg - I’m so proud of you! Yes, yes…since I rekindled my love for fiction/memoirs/science fiction in February, I decided to keep reading. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to read next, so I read a little of the book in Barnes & Noble before I picked it up from the library. I realized that I could just go see the movie, but I wanted to do it old school - read the book first, then see the movie. So, I dove in at the end of last week and didn’t put it down until I was finished with the almost 500 pages on Monday night. Its a clever and different idea. I loved it. And I cried. Like really cried. Laid in my bed next to Nik with tears strolling down my face. For some reason it was just so touching to me. I think because the couple just loved each other so much (or maybe because Daylight Savings just ended and I was extremely tired?). Anyway, it was a great read. I was sad when it was over. When you really get into a story, its almost like being on vacation. You are reluctant to go back to normal life.  I think I will go put the movie in my Netflix Queue right now.

PS: I MIGHT believe in time traveling now…

Well, I Did It

I finally finished a book. I’m pretty ashamed to admit that I have not read an entire book from cover to cover in about 2 years. Maybe I needed a break after college? I don’t know. All I know is that I have become a horrible reader the last couple of years which is quite opposite of all the years of my childhood and adolescence.  My good ‘ol friend, Rodney, told me about The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. I got a library card on Friday morning, picked up the book and was completely engrossed until I was finished with it on Saturday afternoon. My husband stared at me in wonderment commenting that he had never seen me like this before. It was like there was an alien that had taken over my body. But little did he know, that this was a very “Megan” habit that had finally resurfaced. The book was completely entertaining. I loved it. I’m even thinking about picking up another book this week! AND had thoughts of joining a book club! OH THE INSANITY OF IT!! Haha. Anyway, I just wanted to share my accomplishment since I wrote about it about a month ago.
