Life Lesson #101:
People aren’t always what they seem. People don’t always tell the truth. People don’t always give as much as they take.
Life Lesson #102:
Giving of yourself should never be a regret; it should never be done for appreciation, recognition, or to get something in return. If you live this way, then Lesson #101 doesn’t matter as much.
So, Nik & I are a little obsessed with John Legend. Let’s face it, we (especially Nik) are obsessed with music period (good music, anyway). John Legend, in my opinion, doesn’t quite line up with all the other music we listen to, but there is something about ‘ol John that we just can’t resist. He has a new CD out (Evolver) and I am, at the moment, listening to the last song - If You’re Out There. Basically, Mr. Legend is asking anyone who is out there to stand up and be the generation of change…. The song is actually a little corny, but I love it. It kind of reminds me of a Missions Convention song and we are sure that some “hip” youth group somewhere will make a human video out of it (as you can tell, we have had many discussions about this song). Nik pointed out a line to the song that he found quite interesting - “I searched for a leader, but the leader was me.”
Hmmm….searching for a leader, but the leader was me. How often are we looking for the next person to follow, or hoping that someone will make a change? Sure, we’ll help them along the way…just as soon as we find them. John Legend kindly points out that we are the leaders. I am the leader. You are the leader. We are the ones that are called to stand up, make changes, and help those in need. Especially as Christians, we should already know this calling. It should resound in our hearts. But, so often, we get complacent. We get comfortable. We just jump on someone else’s train. What about pushing past that comfort and really stepping up to the plate?
Are you wasting your potential? For some of us, its in our DNA to easily step out - but for other’s, its a scary thing because we can’t get the risks out of our heads. But, aren’t we risking more by sitting on our hands? By not being the leader that God (and John Legend, of course) has asked you to be? God needs people to sacrifice and step up to do His work. Are you willing?
Today was a tough day. One of those days…
A day that you didn’t get the answer you were hoping for - so no matter what else happens, its the only thing that you are aware of. It sits in the pit of your stomach all day. You fight tears at least once an hour. Everything starts to bother you. Days like these are tough. Questions, doubts, plan B’s start to formulate.
It was a long day. And when I got home tonight, I walked in the door and all the lights were off. The only thing that was on was our Christmas Tree. And it brought me peace for a moment long enough to remember the bigger picture. Nik spoke on Wednesday night about being thankful for what we do have - not what we were hoping to get, but what we already had. Tonight, I need to proclaim the thankfulness that I have in my heart. I need my blessings to be greater than my trial of the day.
I am so thankful…
-that I have such a caring husband who really loves me
-that I my parents who pray for me daily
-that I have great relationships with my brothers
-that I can pick up the phone any day and talk, laugh, cry with my best friends
-that I have a good job
-that I have friends and family here in Daphne that love me
-that God has a awesome plan for our lives, even when it doesn’t seem so
-that my humble Christmas tree brought me a little peace tonight
I’m thinking of switching to wordpress. For now, check out meganmatronewhite.blogspot.com.
“When pride comes, then comes disgrace,
but with humility comes wisdom.”
Love you, Cher!
This morning, I read Psalm 13. A little depressing at the beginning, but something I can definitely relate to.
How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and every day have sorrow in my heart?
How long will my enemy triumph over me?
Look on me and answer, O Lord my God.
Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death;
my enemy will say, ” I have overcome him,”
and my foes will rejoice when I fall.
But in the midst of David feeling totally alone and forgotten, he remembers what we, as Christians, always go back to - our foudation of trusting in God.
But I trust in your unfailing love;
my heart rejoices in your salvation.
I will sing to the Lord,
for he has been good to me.
If we are walking faithfully, our soul will always reflect a song to our Lord, even in our toughest of times.
